After by Anna Todd |Movie VS. Book|
Ehi Books Lovers,
After is airing in theaters, have you already gone to watch it?
As you might have guessed from the title of this article today I will not make a review of the book, but I want to make a comparison between film and book because after seeing it I would have so many things to say.
I begin immediately by saying that after years of waiting, and in this last period of trepidation for the imminent release of a film based on one of my favorite books, a love story beyond the limits of the possible, impressive, exciting, the movie was a disappointment. I never expected to say something like this for After, even though I’m talking about the movie. The fact is that after all the work they did, compared to many other films based on books released in the cinema in this period, they made a mess.
The first thing that catches the attention is that Hardin has lost his personality. He is not the rude, overbearing boy who uses poorly educated language, all characteristics that outline his personality that are not in the film. In the film he is almost indifferent, he always acts the same way. And Tessa has also lost some of her personality too.
Regarding the scenes, many scenes that should be at the end of the book in the film are at the beginning, and it’s a real mess, because, like the bickering between Hardin and Tessa in class, they are all scenes that would make sense only after they really know each other and have a past, and not before when they don’t know each other yet.
Same for the bet. Apparently in the film the bet made only by Hardin and Zed would have nothing to do with the original one, even if everyone was aware of it. I was consoled by the fact that Molly has always remained the same.
Another problem with the scenes, which in my opinion is what really ruined the film, because otherwise it could have been a nice cinematic shift, was that they were too short. Let me explain, many scenes were so hasty that they made no sense. They would have had to do longer and more complete scenes and maybe cut some part that they could even avoid. I will give you an example of the moment when Noah is in the room with Tessa and Landon call her because Hardin is drunk, in the film Noah is sleeping and Tessa receives the call. You don’t see who is calling or who answers, in the next scene she is already at Landon’s house.
These were the general lines, but there are many other small details that would have counted a lot for me and that could have made the film better.
Let me know if you watched it and if you think differently from me.
