Hello Books Lovers,

I don’t know how your 2022 is going, I hope everything is fine. Mine in terms of reading is going very badly. Either I have to take a break from books, or I don’t get a good one. 80% of the books read to date have been negative, disappointing, poorly written, or just not for me.

One of them A heart so fierce and broken by Brigid Kemmerer, second in the Cursebreaker Series. I was afraid he’d let me down ever since I started reading this trilogy. The reason then was different from what was then the real one. Let’s say the trilogy started out too good to be true.

What disappointed me the most was the fact that, the protagonists of the first volume, A curse so dark and lonely, Rhen and Harper, for a whole book a slowburn love story is built that at the end of the book is not not even completed so to speak, basically there is no true declaration of love. Precisely for this reason one would expect this story to be continued in the second volume, expanded, thus giving more details to the reader, after all, theirs is the main story.

But no, in this second volume Rhen and Harper are barely present, they have no chapter from their point of view, and there is no evolution in their love story. This volume is connected to the main story, the protagonists are Gray, Rhen’s right shoulder, and a new character, Lia Mara, daughter of the queen of Syhl Shallow, an active threat to Emberfall.

Although directly connected, this seems to be a new story in every sense. What I didn’t like is this detachment. When I read a trilogy, I would like the second volume to follow the events of the first directly, not to split up to have to wait for the third to get some news on the characters who met initially.

After a whole book I became fond of Rhen and Harper, it was not easy to put them aside to get to know Gray and Lia Mara, although these two may be interesting. Reading just didn’t get me. It took me over a week, forcibly reading, to finish this book. I really hope that everything resumes in the third and final volume.

In this there could very well have been 4 POVs, as it will be in the final volume. The author made a different choice that I didn’t like. If you like this style let me know, I would love to compare myself and read different opinions.

I appreciated that Gray, despite new discoveries and new threats, remained the same, humble and worried about his reign. He will have a great journey, from voluntary exile to being imprisoned by Rhen’s soldiers, to escaping again and meeting new allies.

Let’s say that this book has focused more on giving more space to those who were previously secondary characters and here they became protagonists. The third volume will also be released by Oscar Mondadori on March 8th. I’ll read it, so if you want to know what I thought, check the blog around that date 🙂

P.S. Happy Valentine’s Day Books Lovers !!

Mi chiamo Miriam e sono l'amministratore di Me and Books.
