The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert

The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert

Good morning Books Lovers,

Today I have a very important event for you, the review party of The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert.

I am very happy that Rizzoli has decided to bring this masterpiece to Italy. The original title is Hazel Wood and if you remember I mentioned about this book when it first came out. It’s like the cover itself is able to speak, and same is for the plot. It was as if they were inciting me to read and now I can tell you that the content itself is much better than what I expected. I didn’t think I would have found such a particular, unique, flowing and very, but very involving writing.

If you read it, you will see firsthand the uniqueness of this story. The way Melissa describes the characters is a type of reading that I had never experienced before, it is very particular and reflective. The story itself is extremely hypnotic, and although at times it seemed – as far as the tales written by the character of Althea – scary, I could not help but continue to the last page.

Our protagonist is called Alice, and together with her mother Ella she spent her whole life running from one city to another in the United States, escaping from the bad luck and her grandmother Althea whom she never met. But when a letter reaches them despite their constant movement, what is written there convinces them to settle in New York, where Ella got married.

Now they believe that their problems are over, even if Alice doesn’t like their new accommodation much. But in reality their problems had only eased for a short time. When Alice at work sees a person from her past who she never thought she would see again, things get worse than before.

From there her fear begins again. But she doesn’t say anything to Ella, it’s only when her mother disappears that she doesn’t know what to do anymore. Together with Finch, a school friend who is a huge fan of his grandmother’s tales, she begins a journey in search of her mother, but she finds out much more. Find people and information about her past she never imagined she would discover.

I would not know how to associate a real literary genre with this work, except that it is a fantasy young adult. I can only add that it is a reading that should absolutely not be missing from your list, a phenomenal story that will conquer your hearts.

Mi chiamo Miriam e sono l'amministratore di Me and Books.
