Hello Book Lovers,

Christmas is upon us. Have you started receiving your first gifts? You have probably never heard of the book I am about to present to you but what you need to know before reviewing is that An incarnation of shadow and light by S. A. Christianson is a self-published book on Amazon, a fantasy with 4 povs and LGBTQ elements.

A special thanks goes to the author who accepted this collaboration and let me have her book. Already seeing the cover I could never say no and then I started reading, I met Gabriel, then in chapter two Zoe and I fell in love with them. I fell in love not only with the characters but also with the story itself, with what they represent.

Gabriel and Zoe are kind of incarnations. Gabriel represents the dark and is able to use his powers when the sun has gone down. Zoe is the opposite, she represents light and has powers when the sun is high in the sky. Both have an important role because they are almost gods among the people and have the task, as we see at the beginning of the book, to keep the peace and keep the most important families of their world together.

Between illustrations and adventure this book could not have had more. Verchiel is a Victorian inspired town, with parties, games, masquerades, high and low society. The Incarnate are the only ones who can use magic – Gabriel and Zoe. The problems in Verchiel continue to increase, especially after the death of the rulers and it will be up to the four incarnates to solve the problems. Next to Gabriel and Zoe we will have Niklas and Silje. If you’re going to read this book for its LGBTQ elements, then this is the read for you.

All of the main characters and many of the supporting ones are members of the LGBTQ community. Romance is not very present in the book, it is a bit of a secondary element although present. The protagonist is precisely the adventure and the problems and growth that these characters will have to face. There will be plenty of stuff to satisfy every type of reader.

One book I would compare An Incarnation of Shadow and Light to is Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo, this reminded me of it very often in many aspects, so it would be a great reference title if you don’t yet know whether you should embark on this reading or not. The book is currently only available in English, being self-published, but the English level isn’t very complicated. Probably a B2.

What do you think? Could this be a title you would give a chance to? As for the book itself, I honestly don’t know if it’s a standalone or a saga. For now, only this has been announced but I will try to keep you updated.

Mi chiamo Miriam e sono l'amministratore di Me and Books.
