Hello Books Lovers,

Jay Kristoff strikes again. Today marks his return to Italy with a new trilogy that begins with Lifelik3, followed by Dev1at3 and ends with True Lif3, a dystopian story in perfect Jay Kristoff style. You can read his style on every single page, but with all new details. Post apocalyptic, robots and perhaps, in my opinion, even some steam punk notes, with twists you could never imagine and an explosive subplot.

If you know Kristoff, you know that in any case he is not one to make the story run fast, on the contrary he is a long-winded author who writes, with each book, longer and longer stories. But the side that really interests us, especially when the books are long is, is it smooth? Yes, it is quite smooth. Rarely, reading Kristoff, I found myself getting bored. Maybe I got a little more bored in the third volume of Nevernight and the third volume of Aurora Cycle, may it be the curse of the third volumes? I’ll let you know when I get to read True Life.

What do you think of tenacious, self-confident characters, full of secrets, with an unknown past? Because these are the characters that you will find in Lifelik3. Eve, Lemon, Ezekiel, Faith, and many others, each with their own story to tell, with their own goal to complete, with a particular past, sometimes sad and tragic, and with an unknown but full of adventures future.

For me Jay Kristoff is the king of flashbacks, because there are a lot of them in this book but they are all written in such a way that they do not confuse the reader when reading, but add interesting details, almost as if they were parentheses within the paragraphs. As you know, I don’t like flashbacks within the story, well here I didn’t mind because in a way I didn’t even notice them.

In this futuristic world, robots play a very important role, like Cricket, a small robot friend of our protagonist. But robots are not just metal entities, they can also be in the form of androids, people who aren’t really human. Some of them may have particular abilities, others have particular roles, and you will discover throughout the story that some of the protagonists are not really what they seemed.

What I liked most about the story was the construction of Eve’s past, the history of the Morozova, practically a story within the story, built with skill. Everything that happens in the book is just a consequence of what happened in the past. Nothing is really what it seems. And once again a particular character broke into my heart and earned my affection more than the others, so I expect great things for him in the next two books. I’m talking about Ezekiel, who arrives not immediately in the story but who immediately stands out and will also have a very important role.

I don’t know when the Dev1at3 review will arrive, but I recommend you keep following my social pages to stay updated. In the meantime, I start reading volume two and I’m getting ready to meet Jay Kristoff this Saturday at Lucca Comics, I can’t wait, I’m very excited about this thing.

PS. if the story still hasn’t convinced you, I hope the beautiful editions created by Oscar Vault will, they are truly wonderful and unique.

Mi chiamo Miriam e sono l'amministratore di Me and Books.
