Books Lovers,

do you think you know Wonderland? After reading Splintered, you will realize that everything you thought was beyond the white rabbit hole is actually a whole other world to discover. You will be surprised, open-mouthed, with a bleeding heart, refreshed throughout history, but devastated by the ending, eager to read the sequel. You will have no peace until you have read the whole trilogy. Because Splintered is not only Alice in Wonderland retelling, but it is a  retelling that will exceed all your expectations, so don’t start reading it starting from your knowledge, but I recommend, for this story, to forget everything you think you know about Alice because as I said before, this Wonderland must be rediscovered and savored from the beginning as if it were your first time.

Splintered by A. G. Howard, as you may have already understood is the retelling of the story of Alice in Wonderland, first of a trilogy. Ensnared and Unhinged are the following two volumes of which you will have, I think soon, the reviews, because I myself can’t wait to read the other two volumes.

First I have to talk to you about my absolute favorite character, which made me feel a myriad of emotions that I had never felt for a character. Love, hate, frustration, anger, joy, happiness and much more is what Morpheus is able to make the reader and the protagonist feel. Morpheus (I have no idea if what I’m going to tell you is spoilers, anyway …) in this book it would be the Caterpillar, however, again, forget any idea you have of the Caterpillar because Morpheus is anything but a caterpillar. Morpheus is charming, mysterious, beautiful, sometimes irritating, and he may even seem selfish, but in reality, after all, he is able to experience really strong emotions.

And then there is she, our protagonist Alyssa who to try to eliminate the curse that hangs over all the women of her family leaves her family and ventures into Wonderland, followed without her knowledge by her best friend Jeb for whom she had a crush for her all life. She follows all the instructions that Morpheus whispers to her without having yet met him, blindly trusts him because she feels she knows him, and in fact it is so …

Alyssa completes many impossible tests that will lead her to break the curse, and thus save her mother who ten years earlier had been locked up by her father to avoid hurting her again. But below Alyssa discovers unimaginable things, things that will make her doubt. Because nothing was as she had expected, at a certain point even her mission no longer makes sense. Alyssa will soon understand that there is something else at stake than the freedom of her family, nothing is as it seems in Wonderland.

Mi chiamo Miriam e sono l'amministratore di Me and Books.
