Can you believe I couldn’t tear myself away from this book?
Hi Book Lovers,
as you may have seen from the title of the article today we will talk about Vamps by Nicole Arend, a book about vampires perfect for fans of Vampire Academy. One thing is for sure, vampires are making a comeback and for someone like me, who loves these creatures, there couldn’t be better news.
Vamps is very stereotypical on the vampire front and at the same time very original. Our protagonist is Dillon, a damphir born of a human father and a vampire mother, the first ever to be accepted into the prestigious elite school in the Swiss Alps, the VAMPS. In this book the vampires sleep in coffins, they fly, they can transform into animals and they have a bar in the school that serves their own blood cocktails.
The book, for the most part, is not full of action and twists, but it is full of secrets and things to discover. There is a mystery, if we want to call it that, and it will not be solved until the end of the book and there we will have twists, unexpected betrayals and characters who turn out to be the opposite of expectations.
There is some romance, although honestly, apart from one very small scene, I would prefer to define this book as a young adult rather than a new adult. But the strong point of VAMPS in my opinion was one in particular, the growth of the characters. At the beginning of the book we all have snobbish characters. They are all rich, they come from the most powerful and richest Vampire families in the world, they are in a sense all members of the bourgeoisie, yet the further the story goes, the more the pages turn and the more the characters change.
There are those who put on a mask, those who make friends, those who learn to control themselves, those who finally realize they were wrong all along. I think this is the strenght to push on when it comes to this book which is the first of what will be a trilogy. The biggest growth will be from Angelo most of all, and then of course Dillon, Bram will do his part and also, strange to say, Astra.
The last page of the book ends with a nice twist. Because you must know that Dillon is not well seen by others due to his nature and the board made up of VAMPS parents does not want him in the school. Dillon’s will not be an easy year at all, we will see much of their life in the school, the lessons, the dramas, in a flowing book that is a marvel.
VAMPS – Fresh Blood saw freshman year at this elite academy. There are 3 years of school as well as the number of books. Let’s see what will happen in the next volumes, unfortunately the author hasn’t even finished writing the second volume yet so who knows when it will come out.
