Unravel me by Tahere Mafi
Hello Books Lovers,
do you remember when a few months ago I talked to you about Shatter Me, I was not convinced by the style of writing but the story was ok. So I decided to continue reading and I read Unravel me, the second of the saga. At the end of the reading I am very happy that I did not stop at the first book. Unravel me was much better, also in terms of writing.
I did not find all the rhetorical figures of the first book that ended up confusing me more and more with each sentence. And not having all these confusing parts, the story went much more smoothly and quickly too.
The story of this second volume picks up more or less from when it was interrupted in Shatter me. Juliette, Adam and Kenji have arrived at the shelter where hundreds of people with their own abilities are hiding from the government. At the head of this center is Castle, a man with highly developed telekinetic abilities and very strict when it comes to the safety of the center and the people who live there.
Juliette should try to understand her power and control it, but she doesn’t apply. She has always been a lonely person and cannot settle in with other people or make friends. The only person she really talks and confides in is Adam. However, during her stay she risks hurting more people so if she wants to continue to stay there she must commit herself.
However, she understands, at the expense of others that her power comes from strong emotions. Emotions that will not be lacking in this book. Anger, disappointment, pain and more. Due to the return of Warner and the arrival of his very bad father, general of sector 45, but above all pain deriving from the fact that the reason why Adam was the only one who could touch her without hurting himself was that he too has some abilities, abilities that are activated when he feels danger, and now that he’s settling in with Juliette and feels safe, his abilities no longer kick in.
The book is nice chubby, more than 500 pages, and a lot of things really happen, including one of the most beautiful declarations of love I have ever read, 5 pages long. As a plot I have only found positives, and as a narrative I have seen a lot of improvements. I really liked this book and for how it ends I can’t wait to have a moment to read the third one and catch up for the release of the second trilogy in May for Fanucci.
The difficulties are not lacking. Not being able to touch anyone makes Juliette’s life very difficult. She must always wear gloves and cannot afford to make mistakes. Life on the base isn’t too bad except that in the outside world danger is always lurking and no one is safe. There are still many things that need to be resolved, probably many more adventures.
I’ve always seen the writing of Tahere Mafi praised, so when I read Shatter Me I was disappointed with the writing not for me, I’m delighted that I could change my mind with Unravel Me, and I hope Ignite Me is even better (especially now that I know that Ignite has a much deeper meaning for the story). I’m afraid for the second trilogy because if the first one was liked by many, the second was liked by few. Let’s hope so because I know there will be chapters from Warner’s point of view that I have always loved much more than Adam from the start.
Let’s see how the story develops, in the meantime today you get this positive review, one of the few of this year 🙂
