The Wicked King by Holly Black
Hello Books Lovers,
How are you? Is it still worm in your town or has the temperature already dropped? Here in Calabria we still have temperatures soaring, the sun seems to beat stronger than ever, even in the morning at 7 it’s hot. Summer here seems to never end, and going to school with this climate is not pleasant at all believe me, because the classrooms do not have air conditioning and the windows cannot be completely opened. In short, it’s a real torture.
But despite the heat I had to find time to read the wicked King by Holly Black, following of The Cruel Prince. If you remember I gave Prince Cruel 5 stars, that book is an absolute beauty, and I already anticipate that The Wicked King will also have 5 stars. Holly Black herself is a 5-star author and I still can’t understand how she can write certain stories full of love, intrigue, deception, death, pain, disappointment, friendship, plot twists and much more in just 300 pages.
The story between Jade and Cardan could not be more intricate than that. And I have to admit I didn’t expect it. The whole thing was a very pleasant surprise, and an immense shock which I would like to be clarified immediately, so Mondadori please publish the sequel soon. The sad thing is that the sequel will be the last book of the trilogy 🙁
Holly you really want us to suffer. I hope, however, that things between Cardan and Jude will end for the best, and that they will be able to protect the world of fairies from the war. But in short, what should I tell you about this book avoiding to take away the suspense and make you spoilers? Nothing at all, but trust me, if you read the first one this is much better, and in the end you will find yourself putting it in your top ten favorite books because it is truly a masterpiece of fantasy, and I still do not understand how Black succeeds to create certain stories that will thrill anyone, that will always remain a mystery to me.
Jude has tricked Cardan onto the throne, binding him to her for a year and a day. But the new High King does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her, even as his fascination with her remains undimmed. Meanwhile, a traitor in the court is scheming against her. Jude must fight for her life and the lives of those she loves, all while battling her own complicated feelings for Cardan. Now a year and a day seems like no time at all . . .
