Hello Books Lovers,

If you have read my last post, third stop on the blog tour, dedicated to Nash Hawthorne, you will know how difficult it was for me to wait and publish the review today, the first day of the review Party. The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes, published by Sperling & Kupfer in Italy, in all bookstores and online stores since June 8 is one of those books that I devoured in a few days, more addictive than any other book I have ever read, third in mine top 10 updated. And it is for sure one of those books that I would reread now instantly without thinking twice.

But one thing I’d like to talk about first is the cover. At first it will seem normal, beautiful, but you will not notice anything particular, but as you continue reading, go back to looking at the cover. The details you will find will leave you fascinated. In fact, I want to attach here the Italian one too, very similar to the original one, but with some very important details.

Now, why do I tell you that it is a particular book? Because it is, you will understand from the first 3 pages. The genre is young adult, in fact Avery is still 16/17 years old, unlike some of the older Hawthorne brothers. But the real beauty of this book lies in the riddles, in the clues scattered around Hawthorne House, in the woods, enigmas that with a little cunning, even if you cannot be on the spot, you will be able to solve along with the characters, perceptive, daring, beautiful, but with a past that will always make them put themselves and their family first.

The mystery is not lacking, and even at the end of the book, when we believe we finally have some answer, a new mystery comes to light, with the hope that it will be revealed in the following, The Hawthorne’s Legacy. And what is not lacking, but which makes everything more intriguing, is that pinch of romance. But if you start reading this story for the latter element, because you want to see genuine love grow and break out between Avery and one of the boys, with no broken hearts and no disappointments, then prepare yourself to be disappointed, because the love story is just the secondary one, a background.

The focus of the whole book is, why the richest man in texas left billions of dollars to any girl, instead of leaving everything to his daughters and 4 grandchildren. Avery has inherited a huge mansion that no one knows the true boundaries of, the Hawthorne foundation, cars, planes and jets, a luxury hotel and more, claiming that she has never seen Tobias Hawthorne in her entire life.

Her mother died only the year before and initially Avery thinks Mr. Hawthorne knew her, but the truth is quite different and it will take her and the 4 brothers to find out. In all of the book they will have to solve written riddles, find secret numbers scattered around the perimeter of their land, open boxes, wait for the sun at the right time to discover inscriptions and much more, all just to find out why it was Avery who inherited it all.

And at the end of that, some mysteries remain. At the end of the book Avery realizes that she has known a particular person for years, but this detail and many others, I managed to understand them only two sentences before the obvious revelation, when everyone had understood by now. The Inheritance Games is a book written with impressive craftsmanship and I dare not imagine all the inventiveness that went into it. The details are well constructed, understanding something before our protagonists was practically impossible for me. If I could I would give 20,000 stars to this book. And then keep in mind that, not having the Italian version yet, I read it in English. I hadn’t read a book in English for at least two years, and I usually read them more slowly, but this has gone like the wind.

Without realizing it, every time I happened to take a look at the pages, I saw that I had read 50 of them when I thought only a dozen had passed. I would say it is perfect for training the mind, but if you are one of those people who have a hard time waiting for the sequel then with this book it will be a real torture. I, after days from the conclusion, still can’t get it out of my head. The moment Gray picks up Avery, the hotel, the will, the plots, the confession, the kiss, Thea doing a stupid thing, the helicopter, the cave, the arrest … and much, much more. .

And do you want to know how it all begins, after reading the will? With a letter with only written on it. I’m sorry. Written by Tobias Hawthorne for Avery. A clue? An enigma! But these kids grew up doing this, will they be able to solve the mystery of the second book as well? We have to wait until September to find out.

Mi chiamo Miriam e sono l'amministratore di Me and Books.
