Hello Books Lovers,

Just four days ago, Oscar Vault published for italian readers The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue / The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy, in a breathtaking edition, to say the least. Due to the way the volume is structured, both books are contained but mirrored, which means that on one side there is one, and if you turn the book upside down there is the other. And the point that gives more advantage to this edition and to the Oscar is having kept the original covers.

I don’t know where to start talking about this story, maybe first I’ll show you the plot without spoilers so you too can understand what we are dealing with. And I remind you that on the 5th there will be the review of the second volume, follow the calendars 🙂

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue is set in the 1700s, and this is probably the first young adult I read set in that era, and the events revolve a lot around Monty, Percy and Felicity. As you can also see from the fan art Monty is bisexual and has almost always known he was, the problem is that for some years he has had a big crush on his best friend Percy but nobody knows. Yet it is very difficult for Monty because he cannot be as close to him as he once was.

And now they’re about to leave for the grand tour of Europe and he already has a lot of fun planned which is all ruined when his father sends along with them a tutor where all he has in program are city tours, formal meetings and no alcohol, Monty’s favorite drink.

But the grand tour begins and apart from the unpleasant trips planned by their guardian the trip will only continue to decline.

During a meeting Monty out of anger does a stupid thing that will get them in trouble. He will put powerful and dangerous people at their ribs, and will force the guys to leave their guardian behind and embark on a very dangerous journey to save their lives.

This adventure has been addicting from the very first page as have its characters with their secrets with Felicity wanting to study medicine and all she thinks about is that, Percy with a disease he never wanted to reveal to anyone and his personality that it makes him get too attached to people and Monty, Monty is who I could describe least, he is presumptuous but at the same time tender, maybe arrogant but also kind and caring towards the people he loves, Monty is so many things and this whole makes him the person he is, the one who has played an integral role throughout the story, and perhaps even the adventure more unfortunate.

And before concluding I have to congratulate MacKenzi Lee, she had already amazed me with Loki doing justice to one of my favorite Marvel characters, but this time with this LGBT themed book she surpassed herself, this is one of those books that I would gladly reread, and then to increase her skill there are all the research she did and to write this book and which she lists at the end of the volume. She did not want to leave anything to chance or to the imagination and this demonstrates all her skill and dedication to this book.

Mi chiamo Miriam e sono l'amministratore di Me and Books.
