today another book this time by Always Publishing. Let’s talk about Penelope Ward’s The day he came back, a very beautiful and captivating half-NA and half-Adult romance.
The day he came back, it’s probably the best romance I’ve ever read. A perfect combination of past and present, second chances, redemption and true love. Two books in one, a New Adult, and an adult, a prequel and a sequel, a before and after with a 10-year break not to be missed.
Raven meets Gavin one summer when she starts working at his parents’ house, where her mother Renata has been working for years. That very summer Gavin comes home from London before going to Yale. It all happens fast. He immediately feels a strong attraction towards her, and Raven feels the same things too.
But theirs is an impossible story because Gavin’s mother does everything to keep them apart, even threatening the health care of Raven’s mother who turns out to be very ill. The one between the two is love at first sight that after only two months of summer becomes stronger than ever, to be abruptly interrupted by threats.
Raven leaves Gavin, breaking his heart, to find herself 10 years later working in that same house again for the seriously ill Mr. Masterson. And even now, at the most unexpected moment, Gavin returns home to see how the treatment of his father is progressing as his senile dementia gets worse day by day.
Gavin is about to get married, Raven is single, after him she hasn’t been able to fall in love anymore, yet their painful past still haunts them. Only Raven knows what happened 10 years ago, and apparently Gavin’s hateful brother does too. The only one who knows nothing is Gavin himself and Raven intends to keep things as they are, until the lies start to be too much for both of them.
This is exactly one of those stories that will keep you glued to the pages day and night, and the fact that half of the book is the before, and the other half the after, combining almost two books into one volume only gives points more to this story. I hope you will give it a chance and believe me when I tell you that you will not regret it, this is certainly not one of those stories to be forgotten or left to gather dust on a shelf. I loved it very much, and I don’t know at this point how many times I said it, but it’s the truth.
