Buondì Books Lovers,

today we are talking about a beautiful romantic comedy published by Always Publishing. The book in question is Penelope Ward’s Anti-Boyfriend. A smooth, light and romantic story, set in New York, to read in one breath – it took me less than two days.

I had already read more of Penelope Ward, I always liked her as an author of adult romance books, she has a really light writing, which flows on its own. There are no particular concepts to understand, and her books are not long, the chapters are short, and in this case also divided between her point of view and his point of view.

During the reading you might be blown away by Deacon, the male protagonist, for his kindness and availability that could arouse suspicion, but I tell you right away, Deacon is just like that, kind, available, always ready to do a favor, without any ulterior motives. .

Our protagonist, on the other hand, is called Carys, or as she likes to present herself, Carys as Paris. She is a single mother, a former ballet dancer who had to give up her passion after an injury. Working for the dance company she had an affair with a colleague and Sunny was born from there, only her father, Charles, returned to his ex-wife leaving Carys and Sunny behind.

Following a very particular situation Carys and Deacon meet and after a while they become great friends, just friends, spending a lot of time together. The real problem is that they are both attracted to each other, but their friendship is so beautiful that neither of them would want to ruin it, especially since Sunny would be the one suffering from it, in a very short time she became very fond of Deacon.

Let’s say things go smoothly for quite a while, until Carys birthday arrives and something happens that ruins their relationship a bit, and then the news comes that Deacon will have to move to Tokyo for work and that will give again another shock to their relationship. It is this last event, however, that will make them understand that they do not want to stay away from each other.

From here, however, the difficulties also begin because among all the joy, there is always that moment that puts a relationship in difficulty. The real reasons for all these dynamics are deeper and are spoilers, so I can’t tell you anything if you don’t decide to read the book, but if you want my opinion, I absolutely recommend that you read it because it’s a really nice read, especially if you want to read a story that makes you disconnect a little from the usual.

This book was born in 2020, in the period of the pandemic, and it also contains important themes. Many things were born in the period of the pandemic, among all the bad things, even something beautiful came out of that period.

Mi chiamo Miriam e sono l'amministratore di Me and Books.
