Teen Titans – Raven by Kami Garcia & Gabriel Picolo
Dear Books Lovers,
I read it! I finally plucked up my courage and took the time to read the graphic novel about my favorite superhero since childhood. I grew up watching the Teen Titans, and while maybe they weren’t the first DC heroes I met, they outdid everyone else in an instant, and she, Raven, made a dent in my heart as a lover of comics. And after her of course there is BB, and the rest of the Titans.
It’s since Kami Garcia announced she was going to write a comic about her, and then about BB, that I’ve been keeping an eye on it. I always wanted to read it, but at the same time I was afraid of it because being my favorite character, this comic is not her real story, I didn’t know what to expect.
Only when the reading was complete I could say it was not bad at all. The designs are exceptional, and the story itself is well constructed too, very similar to the original, but with personal touches that made it even more beautiful. A few characters have been invented to fit perfectly into Raven’s life.
But you want to know the real reason why I read them. DC has sent me a preview of the third volume, Beast Boy loves Raven, and then I had to recover the series because this third is the volume I was waiting for, and it’s finally here, and I absolutely have to read it, so I had to read the first two volumes.
Raven has been protected from her father all her life. But one day her mother dies in a car accident, Raven loses her memory, and when she goes to live with her aunt in New Orleans, she finds a pendant among her things. It is from this moment that the problems begin. Her powers begin to manifest, and her father starts talking to her.
Raven doesn’t know what’s happening to her. Only thanks to her cousin she will be able to calm the voices, which are nothing but the thoughts of all the people around her. She will face this, and she will face her father. But that wasn’t her only problem because for once she likes a guy, she finds out that he only approached her to help his uncle, Slade Wilson.
By the end of this volume I’m sure I’ll have more clarity in the third, as the second revolves around BB, Garfield. I’m currently reading it, and it won’t take long for me to finish it. The drawings are beautiful, but many are conversation-free, so they flow quickly, and in themselves it’s 190 pages. It’s just a matter of hours.
Probably the next review will be the one on BB so stay tuned so as not to miss anything.
