Riverdale – The Maple Murders by Micol Ostow

As you can see from the title of the article, a new book on Riverdale, always written by the talented Micol Ostow, comes out today in all Italian bookstores for Mondadori, and I, together with the other girls participating in the review party, are here to tell you a little about it.
Micol Ostow took the original stories from the TV series, and the original stories from the comics, and created something new, totally Riverdale-style, that almost seems to really read an extension of what has been done previously. For example, while reading, when Betty spoke I could imagine Lily Reinhart in the role, with her attitudes, her ways of doing things, and so for everyone else.
And as always when it comes to Riverdale the mystery certainly cannot be missed. In this book, Mayor Lodge decided to bring the Riverdale Revels back to Riverdale, which would be simply an old tradition, a week of games and contests to celebrate the constitution of the city itself not long ago.
However, not everyone is enthusiastic about this initiative, there is always something underneath. And in fact these suspicions from some of our favorite characters were not unfounded. The first day of the Riverdale Revels is to unearth the capsule of time that the founding fathers had buried in their day. The real mystery appears when the capsule is opened. Inside it did not contain what everyone expected: letters, memorabilia … but a skeleton.
Betty, Jughead, Veronica and Archie can’t get the thing to flow, mainly because their friends are also involved. As the Revels go on this mystery has to be solved. Nothing ever happens by accident in Riverdale.
A quick read before diving back into the TV series. A little detachment from the visual story, to leave more room for our readers’ imagination. A new adventure not to be missed.
Riverdale is clamoring with excitement over news that an old town tradition is suddenly being revived: the Riverdale Revels.
The festival supposedly has a long history, dating back to the town’s settlers’ first successful maple tapping. But there’s no record of the Revels anywhere. Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead think there must be more to the story. And when a skeleton is uncovered in a 75-year-old time capsule on the first night of the festival, they know they’re right.
But a dead body in a maple barrel isn’t the only drama surrounding the Revels. The Royal Maple pageant (open to all Riverdale teens) is in full swing, but “accidents” keep befalling the contestants, including the gang’s friends.
Someone is clearly trying to put an end to the Revels once and for all — but who? And more importantly, why? Can Archie and his friends put a stop to the sabotage before someone puts a stop to them?
