Hello Books Lovers,

today I have a very negative review, the first ever in the blog. In fact, I didn’t even think I had the image of a star rating, I never had the opportunity to use it, and instead it was there, waiting for its turn to come. In the end, the opportunity presented itself with Il sacerdote di Ossa by Peter McLean published by Fanucci, which despite everything I thank infinitely for the copy.

I tried to read it, I tried to force myself not to take into account all the details that I didn’t like to push myself to get to the end of this book, but still I didn’t. I think The Priest of Bones is the first book after two years or more that I can’t finish, I stopped at about page 200, but I got there very forcibly, sometimes skipping even the most pieces, in my opinion, ugly.

I tell you that from the very beginning, from the first three pages, this book made me say no. I continued because in any case I owed it to the ce who was kind enough to provide it to me, at my request. From the plot it seemed an interesting story, in my canons, perfect for the summer. A high fantasy with which to detach yourself a little from reality. But already from the first page the rude, strong, vulgar language, full of bad words, and inappropriate lexical expressions, and the attempted rape on page two … I wanted to finish reading from there. Thinking about it though, how can you evaluate a book with only the first pages? So I continued with chapter two, three, almost to the end, until I noticed that the situation did not change. I didn’t like any of the characters, there was nothing in this book that could make me say it has potential, and I finally gave up.

I preferred to dedicate myself to other readings that I knew I would have appreciated better. Before this I tried to finish, for the umpteenth time, Kiss me like you love 2 by Kira Shell, I didn’t even make it for that, but for that I can say that it has potential, I can say that I like it, it is just that there is something that does not push me to continue. For the priest of bones, unfortunately, it was a lack of love at first reading.

I have never, ever had certain feelings towards a book, I don’t even know how to behave in this review. I saw, even on goodreads, that many people liked it. Apparently every reader is different, and after so many years of blogging and reading behind me I also found that book of which I did not appreciate even a word.

Anyway, just because I didn’t like it, if you think differently, let me know in the comments, I would really appreciate hearing different opinions from mine. 🙂

Tomas Piety takes his duties seriously: as a soldier, as a priest of Our Lady of Eternal Sorrows and as a leader of men. He has come home from the war to reclaim his family business, to provide for his men and to ensure the horrors of Abingon can never happen in Ellinburg.

But things have changed: his crime empire has been stolen and the people of Ellinburg – his people – have run out of food and hope and places to hide. With his best friend Bloody Anne, his war-damaged brother Jochan and his new gang, the Pious Men, Tomas sets out to reclaim what was his.

And as Tomas is dragged into a web of political intrigue by the sinister Queen’s Men, forced to work against the foreign infiltrators lurking in the backstreet taverns, brothels and gambling dens of the Stink, one thing becomes clear.

The war has just begun.

Mi chiamo Miriam e sono l'amministratore di Me and Books.
