Welcome back on Me and Books Books Lovers,

today I have for you the review of a book outside the extraordinary , On The Come Up by Angie Thomas, published by Rizzoli, now available in all bookstores and Online Stores.

I start this review by telling you that Bri couldn’t be more different than Starr – the protagonist of The hate u give, Thomas’ first book. Bri also lives in Garden Heights, just a few neighborhoods away from Starr and her family, but they don’t know each other, Bri knows Starr because of the events in which she was involved. Chronologically we are a few months away from the end of The hate u give.

I say that Bri and Starr are different because they have practically two opposite personality. Bri is more stubborn and much more impulsive than Starr who in my opinion is more thoughtful. Bri before act and then maybe realizes that she should have thought about it, ending up creating mess and having to always lie. But anyway it is a phenomenal story, a mirror on the dangerous and rude reality of our days.

Bri loves rap, her father was a great rapper who was killed right in front of his family. This is also one of the reasons why her mother is afraid of making her embark on this career, she is afraid, and for this reason Bri is forced to lie to her all the time. Bri’s only real problem her stubbornness, because she doesn’t even listen to the advice of her best friends. She ends up recording a song that will end up creating a lot of problems. She didn’t mean everything literally, but that song goes against many people who take it the wrong way. And it is from here that the real story of Bri begins, she will understand many things, she will grow, and then hopefully make the right decision.

Opening a parenthesis, I declare myself in agreement with Aunt Pooh and Malik regarding the publication of the song, entitled precisely On The Come Up, they were not entirely wrong in saying that it could have created problems, we have seen all the consequences, but I will never get tired of saying that Bri is too stubborn to think about the consequences before they come.

Sixteen-year-old Bri wants to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. As the daughter of an underground rap legend who died before he hit big^ sheâ??s got massive shoes to fill. But when her mom loses her job^ food banks and shut-off notices become as much a part of her life as beats and rhymes. With homelessness staring her family down^ Bri no longer just wants to make it â?? she has to make it. Brilliant^ insightful^ full of heart^ this is another modern classic from one of the most influential literary voices of a generation.

Mi chiamo Miriam e sono l'amministratore di Me and Books.
