Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman
Hello everyone,
I have not done a review for a while, so here I am, with one of the best readings I’ve ever done, even though it took me some time to finish it. I’m talking about the one and only Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman, author of the book that inspired the wonderful TV show American Gods.
Firstly I leave you the two new covers for the paperback UK version.
And now let’s pass to the review …
The book is perfect for mythology lover. The stories, short, start when everything began, until the Ragnarok, the end of everything.
They are well written, with simple English, accessible to everyone. The details and characters are so vivid that they remain in the mind of the reader from the first moment. Neil, apart from being passionate about it, is also extraordinary in writing stories.
It may seem like a history book, so you could start with the assumption that it’s boring, but though you can learn a lot about Norse mythology, it’s anything but boring.
It makes us understand how Odin lost his eye. How the Gods got their most precious weapons, like Thor’s Hammer. How Loki, making impossible promises, always end up having to hide from being killed, or as he periodically went to the land of the giants to entertain a relationship with Angrboda, unbeknownst to his wife and all the other gods. And many other things that have always excited the curiosity of anyone who is passionate just a minimum of these things, even just Marvel movies on Thor :).
I will not go further because the stories are not many, and they are really short, so now you just have to go and read them and go and watch the 8 episodes of American Gods.
To the next time,
