Welcome back to Books Lovers blog,

How are you? How was your summer? Mine was veryyyyy hot, some days it was impossible to even breathe, and it’s not over yet. In terms of reading, however, for more than mid-August I was on a slump. The book that helped me get out of it was Tracy Deonn’s Legendborn, from there I managed to get to a number of 9 books read thanks to the last ten days of the month in which I practically did some reading marathons. I read books that I devoured, books that I liked less and also a book that I didn’t like at all and that I gave a star to. I’ll talk about those more specifically in the next few days with reviews, in the meantime I have another book to talk about.

This title is a booktok phenomenon and it is thanks to this social that was noticed by Newton Compton who decided to bring it to Italy.  Neon Gods, by Katee Robert. Special thanks go to Newton for the copies and the opportunity.

I have a very specific way in my head to present this title to you, but first of all I warn you, it is not a fantasy, it is an adult romance that turns to erotic. Of fantasy there is only the fact that it is set in the Olympus of the Greek gods. My way of presenting it is 50 Shades of Gray Meets the Greek Gods, exactly like this because, if you decide to read it, you will realize that they have many elements in common like the famous playroom, even if the content of that room is very different.

Neon Gods tells the Greek gods in a modern way in which some of the roles are inherited, the gods are not immortal, and from what I understand Olympus is also quite close to the united states as it is the only nation that gets mentioned. What does not change is the nature of the gods, Zeus is always the arrogant leader who wants to command everyone and is able to start a war for his whims. Hades is the reserved one who, however, has a tender side for his people and for the people he cares about. Demeter, Persephone’s mother, is power-hungry and as much as she loves her daughters, her career comes first.

During a party an upsetting situation forces Persephone to flee to the lower city. Her mother had betrothed her to Zeus without her consent, when everyone is aware of the brutal demise made by the previous three wives of Zeus. However, in her escape beyond the Styx she is welcomed by Hades who promises to keep her safe away from the tyrant Zeus. From here they also make an agreement to make Zeus leave her alone by putting her in a bad light in front of everyone.

It is a risky plan, which could spark a war but both Hades and Persephone want revenge. In addition, over time Hades will begin to grow fond of her and between moments of intimacy and moments of politics, they both understand that she will not go anywhere until she is really safe. This book, by the publisher itself, has been classified as a very spicy book, not for nothing it has 5 peppers designed to indicate this level, so, if you do not like the Adult / erotic genre this book is not for the you.

It was a fairly trashy story, with no real underlying storyline, but on its own, apart from the first two chapters, the story was pretty smooth. It must also be said that, if before many retellings of Beauty and the Beast were written, now the spot was left for Hades and Persephone. This was yet another retelling of this greek myth for me, just in this year. Perhaps is better to start using other subjects for books.

Mi chiamo Miriam e sono l'amministratore di Me and Books.
