Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

Hello Books Lovers,

I practically, unsurprisingly, went from never having read anything of Colleen Hoover, to wanting to read every one of her novels. Maybe Someday is in fact the third I’m talking about. This time published Fanucci whom I thank.

You may have heard of Maybe Someday, thanks to its reissue it was on everyone’s lips. But if you haven’t heard of it, I’m here to help you get to know it better. Maybe someday can be seen as a music romance. Music really plays a very fundamental part in the story.

For once, let’s start with the things that I didn’t like and confused me. The prologue is certainly one of them. The prologue starts by telling the story on Sydney’s birthday, our protagonist. She has a rather sad and tragic birthday because despite her seemingly perfect life, that day she discovers that her two-year-old boyfriend has actually always cheated on her with her best friend and roommate.

This is more or less the summary for the prologue. The first chapter starts two weeks before this event. Here I would have expected the whole book to tell the story until eventually the prologue scenes would reappear and instead no. We can see it like this: the book starts in the present with Sydney’s birthday. It resumes step by step to give an overview and after a few chapters it returns to the present to continue from there to the end with everything that will happen after the discovery.

If my explanation seems confusing, think about what I was like while reading. After this point, however, so let’s say the first 50 pages, the story then picked up speed and with a unique smoothness I reached the end of the book in no time at all.

Sydney is a college student with a small job she lose after the reveal about her now ex. And as a result of that obviously she also remains homeless. However, she is hosted by her neighbor Ridge, who was also the one who told her about the betrayal.

Ridge and Sydney met from the balcony because whenever he went out at night to play the guitar, she would join him to listen to him. Once they become roommates, Sydney discovers things about Ridge that she was unaware of before. The first thing is that he is deaf, the second is that he writes the songs for what is Sydney’s favorite band and is currently on a writing block.

Only thanks to her help will he be able to free himself and start writing again. Together with her, Ridge will do and say things that he hasn’t done in a long time and that no one was aware of. They will be a breath of fresh air for each other, with an indescribable attraction. But there is a problem, their relationship will never work out, because Ridge has a girlfriend and has no plans to leave her.

There will be many difficulties in this short book, but there will also be many joys, moments that will make your heart beat faster and that will make you sigh with relief. Apart from the somewhat uncertain start it was a really good read and I can confirm that Colleen Hoover never contradicts herself.

Mi chiamo Miriam e sono l'amministratore di Me and Books.
