today is the second day dedicated to the review party on Nona Gray, volume 2, by Mark Lawrence, released on Tuesday 13th by Oscar mondadori. Despite the division of the review party into single volumes of the Lawrence trilogy, in Italian the entire trilogy is contained in a single volume, an Oscar titan on hardcover with the poster on the back of the dust jacket, an edition that should not be missing from your shelves.
The first volume had ended with many twists, a bereavement, a betrayal, and Nona not yet able to use her abilities. The second volume, after a few preliminary pages, resumes the events two years after the last events. One thing you will notice right away is that Nona will never recover from the death of her friend. As strong as she may seem, she is very sensitive inside.
But new friendships come into play, new events. An important role is played by Sister Glass, with her own POV that in this volume flank those of Nona, perfect chapters to let us know better this character that in the first volume we have seen very little. From the first book she seemed like a cold and calculating person but here we have the opportunity to discover new unexplored sides of Sister Glass’s personality, which perhaps will also help to please you more.
And although here too there are scenes that perhaps could have been written differently, each event serves to make Nona grow as a person. In this volume she is different, yet at the same time as we read it we realize that many things in her personality have not changed at all.
And we come to an explosive ending because Nona is in danger, but the story ends just like that, it will all be revealed in the third and final volume. So I look forward to seeing you next week to find out what will happen to Nona, and if she will be able to escape this further threat that aims solely and exclusively at her killing, eliminating all those who get in the way, without any mercy.
