Hello Books Lovers,

the publisher to thank today is De Agostini who kindly sent me the copy of the book that inspired one of my favorite TV series of all time, the one I saw often and grew up with. Gossip Girl by Cecily Von Ziegesar.

I always knew that Gossip Girl was born as a book before it hit TV, what I didn’t know was that this saga consists of 12 books, a spin-off saga, prequel and sequel. In short, it is a bag full of contents and knowing the events of gossip girl, the material is definetely there. Nonetheless, this was the first time I read the book.

I devoured it, do you want to know why? Because it is 90% the same as the first season of the TV series. It was almost like I was watching the first few episodes, when I was actually reading the whole thing on paper. The reason this old story was released is because a reboot series of Gossip Girl is airing on HBO and even if, I must admit, it’s not horrible, in my heart it will always remain the original, incomparable series, and now that I have read the book I can also say that Gossip Girl is the most faithful TV series to the book from which it took inspiration of all.

The differences are these, if you have seen the series. Erik is not Serena’s little brother, but he is her older brother and he is already in college. Costance is not a mixed school but it is a school only for girls, the boys go to another boys’ school. Serena’s mother, Lily, is not divorced but is still with her husband. Blair’s mother, on the other hand, is already dating Cyrus, which happens after a few seasons in the series. Vanessa, Dan’s friend, is attending Costance.

I hope I have not forgotten anything, otherwise everything is the same, Chuck is the usual, womanizer. Nate, while being with Blair, is madly in love with Serena who has just returned from boarding school. Dan has had a crush on Serena ever since he first saw her. They live the same lives as rich and spoiled, the events are the same as the first season, from dinners, to friendships, to relationships. It was a quick read just for the content, and it was nice to see the gossip on paper.

On TV we can see when gossip girl publishes a new article with the usual message that arrives to the characters, here instead it is all told from the point of view of gossip girl who sees everything and every now and then there are real articles with the juiciest news , with the usual signature at the end, I know you love me, xoxo

I hope De Agostini will also publish the other volumes, this is certainly one of those series that I would read even though I already know its contents. For now, I return to watch the reboot of the series which has new characters, but the story is always the same, full of scandals, disappointments etc. The only difference is that in this new series, from the first episode you know who is behind the gossip girl.

Mi chiamo Miriam e sono l'amministratore di Me and Books.
