Gods and Monsters by Shelby Mahurin
Dearest Books Lovers,
we have also reached the end of this adventure. The book club dedicated to the Serpent and Dove trilogy has ended and Francesca and I cannot but thank you for having participated and have kept us company in these months. It was nice to be able to read a book in company and comment on it in real time.
Once again we have to thank Harper Collins for the opportunity given to us to organize this beautiful event that accompanied us for 3 months and 3 books. And do we want to anticipate the ending? A slap-up ending I would say, one of the most beautiful ever read, the right closure to a story that has had its ups and downs.
This concluding volume was full of twists. It will be difficult not to spoil the previous two volumes but I will try. Here too the events pick up where we left off at the end of Blood and Honey. Lou is no longer herself, many things have happened and now it’s all in the hands of Coco, Reid and Beau to fix the situation before it degenerates and becomes irreversible.
In the act of getting old Lou back, however, another of the characters loses something very important, something that he had managed to build over two books, not without difficulty. This thing is his own memory, the most important memories that have marked his growth and are now gone.
Very cryptic I know XD but I’m just trying not to do too many plot spoilers. However, the journey of the characters continues and in this path they meet other new characters, they see old ones again, some of them are lost …
Unlike the second volume which was very slow and with nothing interesting to add to the story other than characters, the third was the real action. What I wrote above is only a small part of all the important things that happen. But the second most beautiful thing was not so much the happy ending of the events as the epilogue itself. Now, if you haven’t read Gods and Monsters you can’t understand, but if you ever decide to read it, remember these words of mine, the epilogue is probably the most beautiful ending of a story. A closure not only on a plot level but also on an emotional level for the reader.
Also in terms of writing this latest volume has recovered and, although my favorite remains Serpent and Dove, this third one was not bad at all. Let me know if you’ve read the trilogy and what you think 🙂
