Blackout by Various Authors
Hello Books Lovers,
today we talk about another new release, this time Rizzoli. The book in question is Blackout, born from the collaboration of various important authors, all women of color, with the aim of creating different stories, funny, full of emotions, with common themes, ergo racial differences, differences in sexual orientation , etc. The authors are Dhonielle Clayton, Tiffany D. Jackson, Nic Stone, Angie Thomas, Nicola Yoon and Ashley Woodfolk, six authors who, even if you haven’t read, I’m sure you have at least heard of them.
I tell you right away that one of my favorite stories is Kareem and Tammy’s, written by Tiffany D. Jackson. The book begins with them. The two were once together, but then after various reasons, and misunderstandings, they broke up. Now they both find themselves in the same theater doing an internship that will actually be destined for only one of them, and the worst thing is that they cannot know who the internship is, because a big blackout arrives all over New York and panic.
The whole city is blocked, and all six stories are intertwined in a party that will eventually bring everyone together. Another story that I liked a lot was the one between JJ and Tremaine, but then there’s also Nella and Jess, Tristan and Lana, Tre and Kay and Seymur and Grace.
Everyone is in a different part of the city when the blackout occurs, there are those who are running around, those who have to go home, those who are doing a challenge. But the thing I liked the most is how, although the stories are by different authors, at some points during the narration they intertwine. Then what about the narration, I did not find slow points, but the book was very smooth, a super pleasant and summer reading because this is precisely what reigns in the story, and we are often reminded by the characters of the infernal heat of New York and alas, I have experienced firsthand, in mid-August, and I can tell you that with all those skyscrapers not even a breath of air passes, a hellish greenhouse effect is created.
Another interesting thing that I leave you, before finishing the review, is that some stories are longer, divided into acts scattered throughout the book, others are shorter, others end immediately. And it is very interesting to conclude the stories by passing from one to the other, it leaves the desire to want to continue reading until the end.
