All Your Perfects by Colleen Hoover

Hello Book Lovers,

today I’m writing this tablet review, no electricity at home, because I’m too ecstatic to let you have my thoughts. I ask you a question, how well do you know Colleen Hoover, have you ever read anything of hers? Have you ever heard of her as an author? If you are on the book tok you probably have, at least heard of her.

I knew her before It Ends With Us because I often heard her name, but I had never read anything of hers. I’ll tell you, I don’t know if I’ll ever end up reading his bibliography, she has written so many books, but what I’ve read so far I liked it so much that I’ll probably read more.

Today I thank Sperling & Kupfer for the free copy of All Your Perfects, a book that had already been released a few years ago but which has been reprinted in a new guise, with a new, beautiful cover, in the same color as the one made for It ends with us of which I link my review.

All your perfects might not be as different as it is similar to It ends with us. Both tell of heartbreaking stories, complicated marriages, but where a situation was now adrift, a marriage had been destroyed, in All your perfects things can very well be resolved.

This book is very short, barely counting 300 pages, which when you read it seems like 100 of how smooth the narrative is. The chapters alternate between past and present, the past, when Quinn discovers that her future husband is cheating on her just 3 months before their marriage with Graham’s girlfriend, and the present, with 6 years of marriage behind with Graham who is destroying.

For years they have been trying to have a child, Quinn and Graham, but they can’t. Quinn feels broken, because the problem in this situation is her, her body. From constantly talking about her problems with her husband, she withdraws into herself, she is always sad, cries most of the time, is entering a depressive state of self-pity, and her husband is excluded from everything. She can’t even enjoy his touch anymore when they’re alone.

Quinn feels like a failure, and all the anguish in the air is felt throughout the story. Because for me, and I will repeat it ad nauseam, the true skill of the author is precisely to convey the feelings of the characters and situations to the reader, making them perceive every single change of emotion.

Graham has been noticing Quinn’s change for years now, but he doesn’t want to pressure her, he would like her to go to him, but at some point it becomes too much for him too and does something that could ruin their marriage forever. .

What solves the situation in the end will be a simple box Graham gave Quinn for their wedding.

What I really loved most about this story was the intertwining of past and present, it was wonderful to see firsthand how the love of the two was born and how, after years of marriage, it had transformed.

This alternation of chapters was also very useful to make the story more fluid, because after finishing a chapter on the past, I continued reading to find out more, and after finishing one on the present it was the same thing, I absolutely had to get to another on the present to see if the two would talk about their problems, if they would deal with the situation, or if they would continue to suffer in silence.

All your perfects was truly a unique story for me. I had never read books with these themes before and I’m really happy that Hoover and Sperling & Kupfer made me discover them. I know there are other books, even stronger ones, and I won’t let them slip away as soon as they are translated.

And also to this book I give 5 stars, by now Colleen Hoover is my 5-star author, now my goal will be to find her book that will not drive me so crazy.

Mi chiamo Miriam e sono l'amministratore di Me and Books.
