Hello Books Lovers,

I’m back today with a new review for a review party. The third volume of the trilogy that began with A curse so dark and lonely by Brigid Kemmerer is out today for Oscar Mondadori. This third volume is called A Vow so bold and deadly. If you missed my reviews of the first two volumes I leave you the links here – book 1 , book 2 .

Was I also disappointed by this latest volume? Probably yes. Did I like it more than your previous one? Absolutely yes, A heart so fierce and broken was one of the most disappointing books ever read, so it didn’t take long for A vow so bolf and deadly to pass it.

There are some things I didn’t like, and others I liked because they are directly related to the first volume. What I didn’t like were the 4 povs, not so much because of their being different points of view in the first person, but because the chapters themselves were too short for me to settle in with one character before moving on to the other. .

I have to be honest, not even the characters have made me crazy. I found them too similar to the first book, there doesn’t seem to have been much personal growth until at the very end of the book. Rhen, from a character I loved to madness, turned into an annoying character to read, even if he had his reasons for behaving in this way. Harper is perhaps the only one who has remained consistent with herself. I never understood Lia Mara, in my opinion the whole story could have unfolded without her even if Gray would not have had his love interest.

Gray, on the other hand, is not the soldier I knew at all, discovering that he has magic and being heir to the throne has changed him and between his stubbornness and Rhen’s stubbornness there are only clashes.

While reading, I went from filling the first book with tabs, to putting only two in the second, to getting to the third without even keeping them close. All I wanted for these last two books was to finish reading. I am very sorry about this because the trilogy had started out beautifully. This reading, the quality of these books, was like an unpleasant roller coaster, starting off big and then getting worse, and eventually getting slightly better.

There remain the covers that are all three wonderful, at least those. At least they will continue to beautify my library. I don’t even know how to define this final story, which is all too similar to that of the first book. Lilith is back and there will be, in a sense, the same fights. It almost seems that the author wanted to play it safe in the finale but I don’t know. Everything could have been better written.

Another element that was missing for me? The romance. After all, this is not a trilogy with great themes, great morals, one of the main elements had to be the romance that for me was not developed in the best way, not so much the component between Gray and Lia Mara as between Rhen and Harper. I still don’t understand how it ended between them, whether they love each other or not, despite having read the whole book. After all they were already together in the same castle.

But I would say that I have already said many negative things so I stop. Compared to the second, however, the rating has increased by one star. 3 stars. Because this latest book bored me less, I enjoyed getting all the characters back together and I liked Harper once again. Could history have been better written? Probably yes, but anyway…
