Hello Books Lovers,

my time has come to tell you about this book. I finished reading, or rather listening to it, just yesterday. Yes, you read that right, another audio book for me. I’d say I’m getting carried away. This is my third, but boy, what to say, this was by far the best I’ve ever heard and Meg Sylvan is the best storyteller of the three I’ve gotten to know.

This book came out just a few days ago for Queen Edizioni, but it is a worldwide phenomenon (?), Certainly it is a worldwide phenomenon for tiktok. A totally new, modern and at the same time ancient retelling of the story of Hades and Persephone, in an adult romance that will enchant you. If you still haven’t figured out what book I’m talking about, which is a bit strange given its cover and its title everywhere at the beginning of the article, it’s Scarlett St. Clair’s A Touch of Darkness.

It was one thing to find the god of the dead attractive, quite another … to desire him.

It was of a dark beauty, one that promised a broken heart.

Why did I call it a modern but at the same time ancient retelling? A touch of darkness is set in New Athens, where technology exists and the Gods are famous, in the true sense of the word, they have restaurants, clubs, as in the case of Hades. They are public figures, not just gods to be worshiped.

This is the modern part, the ancient one lies precisely in the existence of the Gods, of their living among mortals and also living on Olympus, or again in the case of Hades, in his kingdom, the kingdom of the dead.

Persephone was always kept by her mother inside a glass dome, until he convinced her to let her see the real world and let her study journalism, as long as she kept a safe distance from the gods. Now Persephone is almost ready to graduate, and as a final year requirement she has to do an internship for a newspaper.

In my opinion, it is precisely from this internship that all future events will start. To celebrate her friend takes her to the Hades club, where they will also meet Adonis who will be a colleague of hers at the newspaper. But she will also meet, without knowing his true identity, Hades. They will make a deal, six months to bring life to the world of the dead.

Let’s say that the way Persephone will be forced to spend time in Hades is different from the original pomegranate motif. She and Hades will spend enough time together, they will get close and the attraction between them will become so strong that it can no longer be ignored.

But obviously there will be problems, obstacles. Because Minty, Hades’ assistant, doesn’t want Persephone to go around him. Demeter, Persephone’s mother, does not know about this agreement, but if she did, she would bring her daughter back home forever and then there is Adonis. I do not say anything else to avoid spoilers, to discover the involvement of Adonis you will have to read the book.

There will be the appearance of characters such as Aphrodite, Hermes, Ares, Hecate and many others. In short, if you like Greek mythology – which I love – and are looking for a well done, smooth, intriguing retelling, in a Romance key, A touch of darkness is the perfect book for you.

Mi chiamo Miriam e sono l'amministratore di Me and Books.
